Why did I start a blog:
Interior Design is a process. This blog will be a way for me to share a “behind the curtains” glimpse to how we get the finished look that you see in my portfolio. It is also a way I can also show a bit of my personality and be adventurous with my creativity. While I plan on focusing on homes, it will also focus on my lifestyle and things I love.
When did I start doing Interior Design:
I have been designing interiors for as long as I can remember. Growing up we had an Interior Designer who became like another member of our family and the most exciting time at home was if he was there and working on a project. Rearranging the dresser in my room took on new meaning with him looking over my shoulder and I absolutely loved it! Needless to say, we learned a lot from him. My parents had great taste and I think some of it rubbed off on me. As I got older, people began asking me to decorate for them and finally it occurred to me in my late 20s, with two kids, that I finally knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I went on to get a degree in residential design and started my own firm about 10 years ago. Now with two more kids, yes, 2+2=4 (designers can do math!) I have found my passions, to please my clients and my family.
My fashion style:
I love fashion! I also love to be comfortable and I am convinced looking good should not be physically painful! I think “stylish casual” best describes my wardrobe. If I have a Louis Vuitton, Raybans and some spectacular tennis shoes, I am happy! I will admit that I love men’s wear and prefer to shop for my husband over myself. He would prefer I not shop for either of us but it really isn’t up to him is it? There is nothing better than a beautifully tailored suit with classic patterns and a killer tie…oh and don’t forget the shoes. You can tell a lot about a man, and the fashion sense of his wife, if he has good shoes. Anytime my husband doesn’t have on good shoes please note that he did his own shopping and dressing that day.
Witty and maybe a bit sarcastic but not mean. I hope I am never mean!! I love to laugh! Humor is my favorite and I do subscribe to the “spoonful of sugar” with any medicine way of thinking. I can’t take myself too seriously and I am often goofy. I love me some Nacho Libre and Napolean Dynamite and I often find myself quoting them to clients. “Gosh….”
My approach to interior design:
It is my ultimate goal to bring my style and vision together with my client’s dreams so that they love their home. I seek for casual elegance without being pompous. A home should be used for entertaining, personal retreats, family gathering and above all, a refuge from the craziness whirling around outside those four walls. Of course a design must be beautiful but it has to be usable or the effort is wasted. With an eye for mixing patterns, managing space and layouts while adding layers of texture we can make sure those efforts pay off. I really am a traditionalist with a love for a little bit of funk. I am drawn to the blending of current and traditional styles as long as it is executed to perfection. I love what I do! It is my passion, my joy and my obsession.
My perfect day:
It’s a toss-up. I would have to say driving the soccer carpool through endless road construction and the smell of sweaty shin guards OR, and this wins by a hair, being on the beach with my family, a diet coke, my Raybans and a great snap back trucker hat.
